Fantastic February: how’s it going? (Or, an excuse)

What? We’re already nearing the end of February?

I have to pause and offer an apology here, readers. This month has been a bit of a rollercoaster, and my blogging has been pretty sporadic- as has my reading. That’s the only excuse I have before I share my updates from a month of Fantastic February reading and writing.

You have been warned.

Let’s flash back to the start of the month, when me and a few other bright-eyed, bushy-tailed bloggers decided to do Fantastic February, which is being run by the fantastic Kathy at Books and Munches. We gave ourselves a list of books to read and then pledged to finish them over the course of the month.

My list was:

  • The Raven’s Tale, by Cat Winters
  • House of Salt and Sorrow, by Erin Craig
  • Dark Forge, by Miles Cameron
  • The Wicked King, by Holly Black

So, what remains to read?

Well.

I’ve definitely finished Dark Forge- and you can read my review here– but, embarrassingly, all the rest are still left unread on my shelves.

What went wrong?

Unfortunately, I just didn’t have enough time to balance my TBR list out the way I wanted to! You know how it goes: you get asked to do a few blog tours, your Netgalley list piles up and before you know it, you’ve forgotten to read your books and are banging your head very softly against a wall!

However, there is a small ray of light in the darkness. I have actually read some other fantasy books over the month. Master of Sorrows was a recent addition to my list- and it’s blimming excellent, so do give it a look- and I also impulse-bought a copy of The Tethered Mage which I’ve literally just put down. It’s got magic, Italianate surroundings and a hefty dose of politics… it’s great! And I think you all know how I felt about Enchantée (spoiler: there was some enthusiastic raving involved).

I do read a lot of fantasy, but that’s an excuse really! I’m quite disappointed that I didn’t get around to reading the ones I wanted…

So shall we call it Fantasy March instead?

Shoddy reading aside, thanks to Kathy for hosting Fantastic February! Did you read any great fantasy books this month? Leave a comment below and let’s start a discussion 😀

      1. Yes, it is! The Defiant Heir. And the last book, The Unbound Empire, comes out this April, so your timing is seriously perfect!! I can’t wait to see what you think of the sequel, if you end up posting about it! 😀

If I can fit it in, then definitely! I might read all three and do a post on the trilogy- currently playing catch-up with my Netgalley list!!
