Hello and happy Saturday to you, my lovely blogging friends! How are you spending your weekends?
Me, I’m getting stuck into the amazing-looking By Wicked Design from Katy Moran. I’m also talking about blog burnout (just to put a bit of a downer on things).
I’m part of a group chat on Twitter, and a few days ago one of my blogging friends said something along these lines: I’m struggling to enjoy any books. Is it because they’re not good, or because I’ve got blogging burnout?
The conversation stuck in my head. There are some bloggers that have recently shut down their blogs thanks to blogging burnout. The reading, the writing reviews- it just doesn’t interest them anymore, or they feel like they need a break.
I don’t think it’s that uncommon, either. I’ve definitely had it myself: sometimes the idea of writing yet-another review makes you want to shrivel up and crawl back into bed and make a big burrito with your duvet. Planning and scheduling posts for when you’re on holiday is worse, because you have to cudgel your brains to come up with great ideas. Then they don’t perform as well as you want them to, so then you get demotivated…
I’ve definitely felt blogging burnout creep into the edges of my reading recently. I love reading- always have- but I’ve started looking at my blog as a chore rather than a joy, and that’s a bit of a worry. Blogging should be fun!
I don’t think there are many solutions here, but I’m going to try for one anyway. I’ve got quite a few holidays coming up (yay!) and for those holidays, I’m going to put my blog aside. No posting, nothing except for reading.
Hopefully I’ll come back rejuvenated and refreshed. If not… well, then I guess I’ll just have to take it slow!
What do you think? Have you ever suffered from blogging burnout? Leave a comment and let’s get chatting 🙂
